New Delhi: BJP today said the first year of UPA-2 was a disappointment, with the country facing price rise and witnessing "misuse" of CBI to control the government's allies.
"The first year in power for any government is celebrated with enthusiasm. One never thought that this would be one of disappointment," Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said.
He alleged that while prices have come down around the world, in India the government has failed to control them.
"There has been a rise of 17 to 19 per cent in prices of foodgrains as they are rotting in government godowns and are being eaten by rats," Jaitley said, adding that despite this the Prime Minister had expressed the hope that prices would come down.
He also alleged that government had failed to control Maoist violence.
The opposition claimed that government was "misusing" the CBI to keep some of its allies, whose leaders are facing disproportionate assets cases, under control.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj described UPA as "Unlimited Problem Alliance" and said the government has nothing to celebrate.
"Celebrations for what?... for betraying the aam admi (common man), or for price rise or for the 2G spectrum scam," she asked.
