After Performing Mother's Last Rites, PM Modi Returns To Work

PM Modi carries the body of his mother Heeraben Modi for the last rites.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben Modi, who died early this morning, has been cremated in Gandhinagar. PM Modi performed the last rites. Heeraben Modi was 99.

"Smt Hiraba Modi passed away on 30/12/2022, at 3:39 am (early morning, during the treatment at UN Mehta Heart Hospital," the hospital where she had been admitted since Wednesday said in a statement.

Informing about her death, the Prime Minister posted a heartfelt tweet early this morning, "A glorious century rests at the feet of God... In Maa, I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values."

PM Modi, who was scheduled to launch the developmental projects in West Bengal, may join the events through video conferencing.

Heeraben Modi lived with PM Modi's younger brother Pankaj Modi at Raysan village near Gandhinagar.

The Prime Minister would regularly visit Raysan and spend time with his mother during most of his Gujarat visits.

Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Tamilisai Soundararajan and Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Friday condoled the death of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother. The Lt Governor, in a message, said she was shocked by the passing away of his mother Heeraben and that it was a big loss. 

The Chief Minister said, "I really am shocked upon hearing the sad news. May her soul rest in peace." Home Minister A Namassivayam, Civil Supplies Minister Sai J.Saravana Kumar and Opposition leader R Selvam (DMK), too, conveyed the condolences.

Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Friday condoled the death of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben Modi.

Himachal, Kerala Chief Ministers condole death of PM Modi's mother
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that Heeraben was a noble person who had a fulfilling life by being the guiding force behind PM Modi.

Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has expressed condolences on the death of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben Modi and prayed for the peace of her soul. PM Modi to join development works in West Bengal via video-conferencing
