Jat leaders have met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in hopes of having quota reinstated.
New Delhi: The results of the civil services exam for 2014-15 will be delayed owing to the Supreme Court scrapping the Jat reservation last week, sources told NDTV. Since the results of the written exam will be late, the final interviews will be held later too.
The results, which are usually declared by the end of March, had been prepared after leaving quota for Jats.
Around 20,000 students take the final examination of the Union Public Services Commission, which is the entrance test for the prestigious civil services in India.
The UPSC has asked the law and social justice ministry about the way forward, since the government is examining whether it should appeal against the order of the top court, the sources said.
Today, a delegation of Jat leaders met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to and asked him to address the issue. The Prime Minister has assured them that the Centre is studying the court's order and will try to find a solution within the legal framework.
The BJP government in Haryana has openly come out in support of job quotas for Jats.
Last week, the Supreme Court had quashed the Centre's decision to include Jats in the category of Other Backward Classes to provide them with reservation.
The UPSC exam was held in August last year after massive protests by candidates over the weight given to English in the Aptitude Test. The matter was even debated in Parliament.
