US looking into claims of Indian agencies intercepting emails

Washington: The US is investigating into claims that India's military intelligence intercepted its emails of a commission that monitors economic and security matters with China, with the help of mobile service providers.

"We are aware of these reports and have contacted relevant authorities to investigate the matter," said US-China Economic and Security Review Commission spokesman Jonathan Weston.

"We are unable to make further comments at this time," said Weston, who was responding to questions about an alleged memo from the Director General of Military Intelligence, Foreign Division according to which Indian officials discuss plans to target the US-China commission.

According to the memo, the Indian military used "backdoors" provided by RIM (Research in Motion), Nokia, Apple and other unspecified mobile service providers.

Officials in Delhi did not comment on the report.
