Ayodhya:
Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya today criticised the Akhilesh Yadav government for refusing a water train sent by the Centre for drought-hit Bundelkhand region, saying it was akin to "rubbing salt" on the wounds of affected people.
"UP government is rubbing salt on the wounds of the drought-hit people of Bundelkhand. They are doing politics on water by creating controversy," he told reporters in Ayodhya.
He expressed confidence that BJP would sweep Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, and charged the state government with creating hurdles in the Centre's development programs.
Mr Maurya, who turned 47 today, offered prayers at the shrine in Ayodhya, seeking divine blessings for BJP in forthcoming Assembly elections.
He said the construction of Ram temple is not on the electoral agenda of BJP in the 2017 state Assembly polls.
"Ram Mandir will not be our election agenda but I pray to Ram Lalla to remove all hurdles to the construction of the temple," he told reporters.
