A group of angry villagers in Uttar Pradesh's Alinagar area, who were protesting against erratic supply of electricity and water, tied up and held a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA, police said.
BSP MLA from Mughalsarai, Babban Singh Chauhan, along with ward number 13 councillor Qamuddin went to listen to the villagers' problems, when they were held hostage for nearly three hours.
The villagers were protesting against the problems of electricity and water supply in their area during the holy month of Ramzan , Superintendent of police (SP), Muniraj said.
The villagers were assured that their problems would be seriously looked into.
No complaint from the MLA was lodged by the police.
