Lucknow: An alert has been sounded in Uttar Pradesh following intelligence reports that a terrorist group may try to infiltrate through the Nepal border, police said.

Commandos have been stationed at Ayodhya, Mathura, Varanasi and other sensitive places after the alert was issued.

An official said security has been upgraded in all 75 districts of the state. He said the intelligence input was specific and prior to Independence Day, and police was leaving nothing to chance.

Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) RK Vishwakarma told IANS that security has also been enhanced at the porous Indo-Nepal border so as to ensure that terrorists are unable to infiltrate from the Himalayan country into India.

A letter instructing all district police chiefs to step up vigil before and on August 15, has also been sent.
