Azamgarh:
An inspector of Uttar Pradesh Police has been arrested in connection with the murder of Bahujan Samaj Party leader and former MLA Sarvesh Singh Seepu yesterday in Azamgarh. Three men had gunned down Mr Seepu and his bodyguard at his house early in the morning yesterday.
The arrested officer, Vijay Singh, who was the station officer at the local police station, had allegedly introduced Mr Seepu to his attackers earlier in the day at the police station.
There were angry protests in the area yesterday. Protesters torched two police motor-cycles and attacked a police station. The situation is still tense in the area.
35-year-old Mr Seepu was a Samajwadi Party MLA from 2007 till 2012 from the Sagari seat. His father is a former minister in the UP cabinet.
After Amar Singh parted ways with the Samajwadi Party, Mr Seepu joined Mayawati's party and had contested the last Assembly elections on BSP ticket from Sadar seat in Azamgarh.
