Lucknow:
Policemen in Uttar Pradesh will now get an off every 10 days, an officer said. The initiative was approved by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and announced by Director General of Police Javed Ahmad
The new policy will come into effect from next week. The long-pending demand is aimed at de-stressing the police force, which works overtime without any leave.
Mr Ahmad made the announcement at a late night Krishna Janmashtami event at the police lines.
A few years back, a similar experiment was carried out at a police station in Lucknow but quickly shelved given inadequate manpower and rise in crime in UP. It was also extended to a few other police stations, one each in Gorakhpur and Varanasi but met a similar fate.
But now, after the increase in manpower following large scale recruitment in UP police constabulary and also in the number of sub-inspectors and with a proper order in place the move will come as a huge relief to the police force.
