New Delhi:
Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan has blasted the Uttar Pradesh government over its failure to control water pollution in the state, particularly in Gorakhpur.
The Environment Minister has written to chief minister Mayawati, asking her about her government's plans to tackle water pollution in the state. The letter blasts the Uttar Pradesh government for being indifferent to controlling water pollution in Ganga. The letter alleges that the state pollution control board has failed to control water pollution in Aami river and Ram Ghar Tal in Gorakhpur.
Ms Natarajan has asking the state government to give details of sewage treatment and pollution control being implemented in the Aami river in Gorakhpur.
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi had visited villages and taken a boat ride across the river to hold a chaupaal with the locals who were suffering because of a discharge of effluents.
The timing of this letter is crucial. Less than a month ago, another congress minister- Rural Development's Jairam Ramesh wrote letters to Mayawati over MNREGA.
