Uttarakhand: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi on aerial survey of Kedarnath today
New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will fly to Uttarakhand today to assess the damage caused by the torrential rains and flash floods in the temple town of Kedarnath.

Dr Singh and Mrs Gandhi will take a two hour survey of flood affected areas today.

Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde told reporters that the PM and Congress president were briefed this morning about the havoc caused by heavy monsoon rains and flash floods in the state.

"The PM and Congress chief are going to do an aerial survey of Kedarnath in the afternoon," said Mr Shinde.

According to Mr Shinde, the number of deaths stands at 69, while 11,000 stranded pilgrims and tourists have been rescued so far.
