New Delhi:
Sources have told NDTV that V S Sampath, a 1973 batch IAS officer, is likely to be appointed the new Election Commissioner. Sampath, who is currently the Secretary in the Ministry of power, belongs to the Andhra Pradesh cadre.
The opposition that the BJP had towards the appointment of Navin Chawla is not likely to be there this time as Sampath is not perceived to be close to the Congress.
