The doctors' strike at SSG hospital in Vadodara has been quite harsh on the patients, especially parents. They allege seven young children have died because they haven't got proper care.
Razzak is in grief after losing his 15-day-old baby girl due to the strike. This is the seventh infant death in the last two days at this government-run hospital in Vadodara.
"All this has happened because of the doctor. It is because of the strike that this happened. My daughter was fine till yesterday," said Razzak.
Over 300 doctors are on strike at SSG hospital in Vadodara. Of the 15 doctors in the paediatric ward, only two are on duty. But the hospital says the infant deaths have nothing to do with the strike.
Doctors claim two infants died of heart disorders and the others because of premature birth complications.
"One of the children who died weighed only 600 gm. Usually such children don't even complete even 28 weeks of pregnancy. Mostly such children don't survive," said Dr Bakul Javedekar, head of Paediatrics.
As parents who have lost their babies mourn, those whose infants are still in the hospital are hoping the stir is called off soon.
