Pilibhit: Varun Gandhi may be out on parole for two weeks, but he is still stirring things. On Saturday, he wrote to the Election Commission demanding that the Pilibhit District Magistrate and SP be transferred as he expects them to be partisan.
He has also asked that a neutral observer be appointed for his nomination.
This latest development comes after Varun met with BJP leader LK Advani and got some good advice from the veteran leader.
During the nearly hour-long meeting, Varun is understood to have expressed his gratitude to the party for having stood by him "staunchly in his hour of crisis," party sources said.
But how open will the EC be to Varun's letter? Earlier, the outgoing CEC N Gopalaswami said that Varun Gandhi's hate speeches were much worse than what is in the public domain.
Speaking to NDTV, Gopalaswami said, "The Election Commission watched all the tapes and the content was more virulent than what has appeared on television channels so far."
He also defended the EC's decision to suggest that the BJP should not make him a candidate, saying a strong message had to be sent.
