Pilibhit:

It has been a boost for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi and a setback for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.

Varun's supporters spent Friday night celebrating, and since Saturday morning, Varun has been campaigning in Pilibhit with renewed vigour.

In fact, though he has not gone back to his vitriolic speech, he isn't very toned down either.

"People of Pilibhit know that there is no place for violence here. Everyone lives in harmony but that does not mean that if anyone attacks our own people, we will stand on one side like eunuch. In these elections the patriots - be it Hindu, Sikh or Muslim - will be respect," said Varun.

However, the young BJP leader also said that he was not just a Hindu supporter.

"Whoever says that Varun Gandhi supports Hindu is just gravely mistaken," he said.

The BJP leader said that he went to jail for the people of Pilibhit and urged the people to empower him by voting for him.

"My fight is not against anyone. I just want to speak out against injustice. I went to jail for the people of Pilibhit. Everyone knows I do what I believe in. Make me win so that no one dares fight me again," said the young leader.

While Varun was campaigning with renewed vigour, his mother, BJP leader Maneka Gandhi expressed pleasure over the recommendation that the NSA imposed on her son was invalid.

"I am very happy. I have full faith on the judiciary. I want that all the cases where NSA has been imposed on people should be investigated into," said Maneka.

Meanwhile, Mayawati's aides have been busy strategizing and planning what to say in their appeal to the Supreme Court against the state advisory panel's recommendation that the NSA imposed against Varun Gandhi was invalid.
