Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje attends International Yoga Day
Jaipur, Rajasthan:
International Yoga Day provided Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje, the perfect occasion to make her first public appearance in almost a week in Jaipur today. She has been at the centre of a controversy surrounding her links with former Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi.
Ms Raje who had not made any public appearance over the past week due to the controversy, was seen at the Sawai Man Singh stadium ground flanked by her ministers and lawmakers this morning.
From vriksh asan, the tree pose to ustra asan, the camel pose, Ms Raje performed all the postures during the 40-minute-long programme, but she looked more comfortable doing pranayama and the breathing exercises.
The opposition party, Congress has been demanding the resignation of the chief minister after documents released by Lalit Modi's team showed Ms Raje had agreed to secretly support his immigration application to the United Kingdom. She is also confronting allegations involving a business deal between her son Dushyant Singh and Lalit Modi since last week.
Her party, the BJP has now come out in her support. "The question is imaginary. There is no technical and legal basis that you can say there is any point of impropriety," said party spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi.
Ms Raje had earlier backed out of attending the celebrations to mark 350 years of the Anandpur Sahib, a sikh shrine and share stage with BJP president Amit Shah, home minister Rajnath Singh and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on June 19. She was reportedly unwell.
