Vice President Hamid Ansari on Thursday greeted the people of India on the occasion of Onam, to be celebrated on Friday.
"I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to the people of our country on the auspicious occasion of Onam," he said in a statement in New Delhi.
Mr Ansari said: "Celebrated with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm, this festival reflects the central role of agriculture in Indian society."
"May the festival usher in peace, prosperity and happiness in our country," he added.
Onam is a traditional 10-day harvest festival celebrated mainly in the state of Kerala.
