Victim's mother questions Ansals bail

New Delhi: The Uphaar victims' families have been fighting for justice for a long time. Now, one such victim's mother, Neelam Krishnamurthy, Convenor of the Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy has questions on the Supreme Court's judgement of granting bail to Susheel and Gopal Ansal.

Meanwhile, the Ansals have said in a statement said they were targeted for no fault of theirs. They said that while they had sympathies for the families who lost their loved ones in the Uphaar accident they too have suffered due to a misdirected campaign and and have been punished for mistakes they did not commit.

The Ansals also said they were confident that they would be acquitted and the damage done to their reputation will be undone.

The two Ansal brothers have been in Tihar jail after the court had cancelled their bail in September 2008.

Both are likely to walk out of jail on Friday. As many as 59 people had died and over 100 others were injured when the south Delhi cinema house had caught fire while a film show was on.

The Ansals had approached the court for review of the order. Their appeal challenging their conviction and one-year jail sentence given by the Delhi High Court on December 19, 2008 had been pending with the apex court.
