Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has ordered a vigilance inquiry to study allegations of corruption against P V Sreenijan, the son-in-law of the former Chief Justice of India, K G Balakrishnan.
Sreenijan, who has served as a former vice-president of the Youth Congress in Kerala resigned from the party last week.
The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau was authorized by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan to conduct its inquiry on the basis of a private complaint received by him, according to government sources.
A few days ago, G Bhaskaran, who is Balakrishnan's brother quit as Special Government Pleader in the Kerala High Court - he too has been accused of owning assets disproportionate to his income. Bhaskaran attributed his resignation, however, to health reasons.
A former vice president of the state Youth Congress who unsuccessfully contested the last assembly polls from Njarakkal segment in Erakulam district, Sreenijan had resigned from the primary membership of the Youth Congress last week after coming under the cloud of allegations.
