New Delhi:
Delhi BJP leader Vijay Jolly will appear before the National Commission for Women today to answer questions on his act of vandalism at the home of former Tehelka managing editor Shoma Chaudhury in Delhi.
On Thursday, Mr Jolly and a mob of party workers threw paint at Ms Chaudhury's gate, graffiti-ed the word "accused" onto her name plate, and then heckled her and tried to stop her from driving out of her home.
"She has been trying to suppress the complaint and facts in the case," shouted Mr Jolly.
Just hours before that, Ms Chaudhury had resigned as the Managing Editor of Tehelka. She had quit the news magazine after being pummelled by criticism over her handling of a complaint of sexual assault against its founder, Tarun Tejpal.
The BJP has distanced itself from the incident, but will not punish Mr Jolly for his goonda act.
Party chief Rajnath Singh had said Mr Jolly "apologized unconditionally" for his action and has been named in a police case.
Mr Jolly was questioned by the police on Saturday and Sunday. He has been asked to appear before the police today as well.
The BJP leader however says he is being targeted by the police under a "conspiracy" to keep him away from the upcoming assembly polls.
"I am being targeted despite apologising in this matter. It is a conspiracy to keep me away from the elections. It is politically motivated, I condemn this," Jolly said.
