Violence Against Women Is Rising Under Trinamool Rule: Meenakshi Lekhi
BJP national spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi said Trinamool Congress has created a reign of psychological terror in West Bengal.
Kolkata: BJP national spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi today alleged that violence against women is on the rise under Trinamool Congress regime in West Bengal and she would soon write to the Ministry of Home Affairs on the issue.

Lashing out at the Trinamool Congress-led state government for increase in crime against women, Ms Lekhi said, "It is a shame that we have a woman Chief Minister but still violence against women and teenage girls are on the rise with every passing day in the state.

"Instead of tackling these crimes, the state government is creating separate brackets for compensation. TMC has created a reign of psychological terror in the state and is using terror as a tactics to take on political opponents," she told reporters in Kolkata.

Stating that she would write to the Union Home Ministry on the issue, Ms Lekhi noted she would also ask the state BJP Mahila Morcha to write to National Commission for Women over the rise in incidents of rape and molestation in the state.

BJP women's wing yesterday kicked off a 10 day-march from Kamduni in North 24 Parganas district to Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas to protest against alleged rising atrocities against women under Trinamool regime.

The 124-km march began from Kamduni, where a 20-year-old girl was gangraped and murdered in 2013. The march is being led by state BJP Mahila Morcha president Roopa Ganguly.
