Violence in Delhi school; teachers, students injured

New Delhi: Three students and two teachers were injured on Wednesday when two groups clashed inside a government school in the national capital, allegedly over the issue of eve teasing of girls.

The incident was reported from the Government Senior Secondary School in north Delhi's Nehru Vihar, which falls under Timarpur police station area, at about 10 am.

Police, however, have refused to confirm that molestation or eve teasing was the reason for the violence, saying they were yet to ascertain the reason for the scuffle.

The attackers also set the motorcycle of a student on fire before fleeing from the spot, a senior police official said.

"Some students claimed that those on the run were molesting and eve-teasing girls. When some students tried to stop them, they took out sharp-edged weapons and thrashed them and set a vehicle on fire. Teachers who intervened were also beaten up," the official said.

The official said police have identified the attackers and all of them are juveniles.

"All the accused are studying in the same school but are on run. We don't know the reason why they clashed. We are questioning some of the students to know the reason behind the incident," the official said.

The injured students have been identified as Sudhir, Vikas and Jitender, all of them class XI student. All the injured, including the teachers, were rushed to ISBT Trauma centre and were undergoing treatment.

"It was lunch time at the school when the fight took place between two group of boys inside the school campus," the police official said.

Extra police personnel were deployed near the school after the incident.

A case has been registered under IPC sections 435 (mischief by fire or explosives), 452 (making preparations for causing hurt) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt).
