Bengaluru: AIADMK leader V K Sasikala was granted a 15-day parole today to attend her husband M Natarajan's funeral.
She left from from Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in the afternoon, news agency ANI reported. Her husband M Natarajan, 74, died at a hospital in Chennai early this morning.
Sasikala is serving a four-year prison term in the Rs 66.6-crore disproportionate assets case at the Parappana Agrahara jail in Bengaluru.
M Natarajan had undergone a kidney transplant in October last year and was discharged after having completely recovered. Sasikala had visited her husband after she had requested parole for 15 days to visit her critically ill husband.
On Saturday, M Natarajan was admitted to the hospital on Saturday with severe chest infection and was put on a ventilator.
The body was kept at his Besant Nagar residence in Chennai for people to pay homage.Sources close to M Natarajan's family said his body will be taken to his native village in Thanjavur district in Tamil Nadu for the final rites, PTI reported.
VK Sasikala was married to Natarajan Maruthappa, a former government public relations officer for 33 years. He was the first to have introduced Sasikala to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
He was among Sasikala's relatives who were expelled by Jayalalithaa from her Poes Garden home in Chennai. He was accused of working against her interests. Sasikala's nephew TTV Dhinakaran, who launched a political party recently, was also among those thrown out.
