Vote rigging caught on camera in Orissa

Vote rigging caught on camera in Orissa
Bhubaneshwar:

In Orissa a case of alleged vote rigging was caught on camera during the second phase of polling for the Orissa Assembly. It was a footage shot by a local journalist in Nayagarh that shows votes being rigged allegedly by workers of the ruling Biju Janata Dal. And all this in the presence and knowledge of polling officials.

In fact the man who's seen rigging votes, is a poll official.

More complaints of poll anomalies have been raised by an Independent candidate.

Hemendra Chandra Singh, an Independent candidate from Nayagarh says that it was the BJD and that his agents were scared to protest because it was a matter of life and death for them.

Despite repeated attempts, the Collector refused to comment saying he has not received any complaint.

There has been no official response from the BJD yet but senior party leaders claim their men are innocent.

"I don't believe BJD fellows have done it. If some miscreants have done it and if the fact is true then appropriate action will be taken by appropriate authority," said Devi Prasad Mishra, Senior BJD Minister.

The Independent candidate had petitioned the collector on April 22, two days before polling, apprehending foul play in two booths. But no action was taken, even after pictures of rigging were aired on a local TV channel.

Now, he has complained to the chief election commissioner.
