Muzzaffarnagar:
Two domestic helps have been taken into custody and are being interrogated in connection with the murder of Revati Singh, wife of senior BJP leader Hukkum Singh, police said on Monday.
There is a possibility that Revati (75) was murdered for loot of lakhs of rupees in cash, as has been alleged by her husband Hukkum Singh, BJP deputy leader in Uttar Pradesh Assembly, they said.
Revati's body was found in the bedroom of her Gandhi colony house on Sunday and circumstantial evidence indicated that she was murdered, Additional Director General of Police, Brij Lal had said.
The ADGP had earlier ruled out the possibility of murder for loot as the belongings of Revati, including a gold chain, diamond earrings, bangles and her mobile phone were recovered from the room.
However, after Hukkum Singh claimed that lakhs of rupees are missing from the house, it is being probed if she was murdered for loot of cash and two domestic helps are being interrogated, police said.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and former party president Rajnath Singh said that the common man in Uttar Pradesh is living in fear because of the BSP led-state government.
He said that the BSP government is unable to maintain law and order, provide power supply and education.
It is the policies of the state government and not the police that is responsible for deteriorating law and order situation in the state, he said.
