Was toddler's murder sparked by simple accident?
Melbourne: As teddy bears and notes from total strangers pile up outside their home in Thomas Town, three-year-old Gurcharan's parents may have some answers to why their toddler was killed.

The man who has been arrested for the murder, Gursewak Singh, lived in the same house as Gurcharan's family in this part of Melbourne.

Police sources tell NDTV that Gurcharan may have been killed in a panic. Under interrogation, Gursewak has reportedly suggested that on Thursday, he accidentally injured the child when he opened the front door of the house. Gurcharan's injuries were serious enough that he fainted. A distraught Gursewak then put the child in the boot of his car and headed to hospital. En route, he worried that this would turn into a police case. So he then opened his boot, found that Gurcharan had died, and abandoned him on the road.

The family is now waiting for the police to release the body of Gurshan and the Indian high Commission has promised financial help in taking the body to India for cremation and last rites.

In Punjab, Gursewak Singh's parents say they did not raise a murderer and that any inquiry by the Australian police will prove their son innocent. Pargat Singh, who is Gursewak's father, says "My son was earning well and some of his friends were jealous of him. They have trapped him by testifying against him to the police."
