The verdict was clear in Gujarat from the get-go, as the BJP took a giant lead over the Congress soon after counting of votes began.
But it took hours for the Congress to switch off a clock at its headquarters in Ahmedabad that was "counting down" to a BJP defeat.
The clock, set up reportedly when the elections were announced, was counting down to "Parivartan" or a change in government. It had slots for days, hour, min, seconds.
It was switched off around 11.20 am.
The BJP is heading for its best-ever victory in Gujarat, beating the Congress's record of 1985.
Leads show the BJP ahead in 152 of Gujarat's 182 seats. That would make it an all-time high, more than the Congress's record of 149.
The Congress faces a historic low after a listless campaign completely overshadowed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s big push.
