A family in Gujarat got the shock of their lives on Wednesday night when they saw a lion in their kitchen, sitting on a wall, staring back at them.
The lion sat in the kitchen for nearly two hours as the residents ran for their lives. The villagers came to the family's rescue and chased the lion away using lights and sounds.
Mulubhai Rambhai Lakhannotra's family was sleeping in their house in Gujarat's Amreli when the lion entered through an opening in the roof, local media reported. The unannounced guest caused panic. The family ran out of their home and cried for help, alerting villagers to the animal in their house.
A video that is viral shows the lion sitting on the top of a wall, peeping into the kitchen. He looks around as a villager focuses a flashlight on his face. For a moment, he looks into the camera, his eyes glowing in the dark.
It took nearly two hours but the lion was finally chased away. No injuries were reported.
This is not the first time the 'king of the jungle' has been seen in a residential area. Earlier in February, in the same district, the traffic on the Bhavnagar-Somnath Highway in Gujarat stopped briefly after an Asiatic lion was spotted walking on the road, halting vehicles for at least 15 minutes.
The lion was seen crossing a bridge and cars, trucks and bikes stopped to let the lion cross the highway. The video was shot from a car that was forced to stop.
