Water crisis after Metro mishap

New Delhi: For local residents of Amar Colony who live right next to the site of the Delhi metro disaster, the collapse at the metro accident site is unfortunate but their crisis is more immediate.

The last few days have been a horror story for them for there's been no water for 3 days after the Metro bridge damaged a major water pipe line.

"It's our misfortune that when this metro bridge collapsed the water pipe running under it also broke. It's been 72 hours now and we have no water. The Jal board officials don't answer their phones, no one is talking to us or reassuring us," says Virender K Gupta, President, Residents Welfare Association.

And there seems to be no help at hand whatsoever.

Water tankers are reportedly charging Rs 2000 to supply water and they need an advance notice of 24 hours.

"How can you expect senior citizens to carry water from the ground floor to their homes on the third floor? asks Ankit Bhatia, a local resident.

For instance, for a man who has had a heart bypass, he says he is in no shape at all to run around for help.

These people have travelled from pillar to post for help. They are now desperate for help. Their demands are genuine. It's been a miserably hot summer in Delhi. So how does anyone survive so long without something so basic?
