Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit overseeing arrangements before Rahul Gandhi's rally
New Delhi:
Hours ahead of Rahul Gandhi's rally in Delhi, his first in the capital ahead of December 4 state elections, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was seen overseeing arrangements at the venue, a large ground where Sonia Gandhi had launched the Congress campaign in the last polls.
Mr Gandhi and the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi are both addressing rallies on a politically charged Sunday for the country's main national parties.
Though there has been no official announcement by the Congress, many expect Rahul Gandhi to be the Congress' pick for Prime Minister if the party wins a third straight term at the Centre in next year's general elections.
"When elections take place next year, and it emerges who has the numbers to form a government, then we decide on who will be Prime Minister. In this party, we do not decide before that," said Ms Dikshit.
A lot rides on this rally as Ms Dikshit fights for a fourth straight term, at a time her Congress party is battling challenges ranging from corruption allegations to high onion prices.
"Rahul Gandhi's rally is very prestigious to us," said Ms Dikshit, who arrived at the venue in the morning to make sure everything was in order.
Last month, Mr Modi had also addressed a rally in north Delhi to kick-start the BJP's campaign to return to power in the capital after 15 years.
Just after Mr Gandhi's rally, the Gujarat Chief Minister will address a large gathering in Bihar, an event that the BJP has staked a lot on.
