We should open doors to Tamil people: Rahul

Chennai: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who is on a three-day visit to Tamil Nadu, has said that he is in the state to build the Youth Congress.

"We should start opening our doors to Tamil people," said Rahul Gandhi.

Referring to the speculations of his Tamil Nadu visit being an attempt to replicate his success in Uttar Pradesh during the general elections 2009, Rahul said that the success cannot be replicated everywhere.

"I am one of the architects of the UP formula. UP cannot be replicated across the board," he said.

When asked about his not meeting DMK chief M Karunanidhi during his Tamil Nadu tour, Rahul said, "We have very good relations with the DMK. I am an admirer of Karunanidhi."

Rahul was also asked about the probabilities of Tamil superstar Rajnikanth joining the Congress. He said that Rajnikanth is most welcome to join the party.

Referring to the issue of safety of Tamils in Sri Lanka, Rahul said that the government has been exerting massive pressure on Sri Lanka, adding that the rights of the Tamil people must be respected.

Talking about groupism in politics, the young Congress leader said that it exists in all states and every single party.
