Kolkata:
A police complaint has been filed against the Deputy Speaker of West Bengal Assembly and senior Trinamool leader Sonali Guha for allegedly using foul language and threatening the secretary of a housing colony in Howrah during a dispute with a tenant in the building.
The building secretary, who is a homeopathic doctor, was woken up by a tenant demanding to know why the lift was not working. A quarrel ensued during which CCTV footage shows women from the tenant's family beating up building secretary with a slipper.
The tenant then called up Ms Guha, who arrived after 1 pm and allegedly abused the building owner. She is reported to have said "I am a man of the chief minister, I am the government." She was also recorded on a mobile phone saying she would speak with the home secretary and have the CCTV removed from the building.
Ms Guha has denied the allegation, saying she had only stepped in to help a friend whose pregnant wife could not climb stairs.
Later, the tenant filed a police complaint against the building secretary.
But the Deputy Speaker could be in trouble. Trinamool general secretary Partha Chatterjee has said the party does not support what happened and is looking into the matter and will take necessary action.
In the past, Ms Guha is known to have abused a policeman at a police station in foul language.
