West Bengal rains: Breach of embankment leads to fresh floods

Panskura: A number of blocks under Panskura and Tamluk in East Midnapore district was flooded after a breach in the embankment of Kangasabati river, West Bengal Disaster Department sources said.

"The Kangsabati embankment was breached at the same place Garpurushottampur near Pankskura during the flood first time a few days back and it was repaired by the army," the sources said.

With the breach of embankment second time, army personnel again rushed in to plug it and prevent more areas from being inundated, they said.

At least four blocks were inundated affecting thousands of villagers for the second time, the sources said adding shelters were provided to them reopening the camps. A person was killed under Panskura area in the last phase.

District administration have also asked to send relief materials immediately.

With the breach of embankment over Kangsabati river at Garpurushottampur, entire area covering at least four blocks were immediately inundated prompting the local administration to seek army assistance.
