Mumbai:
The search for effective aids to interrogate is probably as old as man's need to obtain information from uncooperative sources. Narco-analysis is one such tool of investigation to help the police.
So, what exactly does an accused undergo when he is subjected to a narco-analysis test?
The main intent and aim behind a narco-anylsis test is to extract information from the accused when he is in a hypnotic state. The entire responsibility of this procedure is on the doctors.
The accused is first told what he will be undergoing and his permission is sought.
Narco-analysis is also known as the truth serum test. An injection known as Thiopentone is used for one such test. Its chemical name is sodium pentathol and it is mixed in distilled water before being administered to the accused.
The entire test could take anywhere between 1 to 3 hours. Fifteen minutes after the medication is stopped the accused regains consciousness and in two hours he can go back home.
