New Delhi:
There are no laws or guidelines to regulate what sort of weapons private security guards can carry, the government admitted in the Supreme Court today.
The court had asked for details after liquor baron Gurdeep Singh Chadha, better known as Ponty, and his estranged brother were killed in a daylight shoot-out at the former's large farmhouse in Delhi last year.
Security guards for both brothers exchanged fire at a meeting that had been called allegedly to discuss a property dispute.
The Supreme Court had asked the Home Ministry to explain how private security agencies are governed.
In response, Additional Solicitor General Sidharth Luthra said today, " Absolutely no law or rule exists today to regulate or restricting use of arms by private security persons."
The case will next be heard on August 6.
