Kathmandu:
As he left Kathmandu for New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted a "thank you" to the people of Nepal and his host at the SAARC summit Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.
"I thank the people of Nepal for their warm hospitality. My thanks to PM Koirala for being a wonderful host during the SAARC Summit," PM Modi said.
Earlier in the evening, Prime Minister had stopped his car suddenly and walked into a crowd on the road to say thank you in person. He was returning after attending a mountain retreat organised for the leaders of the eight member nations of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation or SAARC.
Spokesperson in the ministry of external affairs Syed Akbaruddin tweeted a photograph of the PM with both arms outstretched to greet people who clamoured to shake his hand.
Thank you Kathmandu. PM @narendramodi thanks crowds who thronged his route.
At the retreat, the frosty Indo-Pak ties that dominated the two-day summit, briefly gave way to an exchange of pleasantries as a smiling PM Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif shook hands.
Mr Akbaruddin tweeted that photograph saying, "The photo all were waiting for."
In Kathmandu, he said, "India is for peaceful ties with Pakistan. We want meaningful dialogue. If this handshake leads to that, we would welcome it. However, the emphasis is on meaningful dialogue."
