New Delhi/Dewas/Bhopal:
The Congress has been asking for a probe into the RSS' terror links. And one of the reasons for that is Sunil Joshi, a former RSS man allegedly involved in the Ajmer and Mecca Masjid blasts. But before the probe against him could go anywhere, Joshi was found murdered in Dewas in 2007.
Police claim Joshi was murdered by RSS men and closed the case in May last year, citing lack of evidence.
But things took a turn when the Rajasthan Police's Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) arrested another RSS man Harshad Solanki in connection with the Ajmer blast.
Now the police claim Solanki, who was in their custody for two weeks, has confessed to the killing.
"Sunil Joshi's behaviour with Harshad Solanki was quite bad and this began to annoy Solanki and resulted in Solanki committing the crime," said Surendra Singh, SP, Dewas.
But sources say Joshi was ready to turn approver and this could have given away a lot of secrets. Joshi was said to be close to Malegaon blast accused, Sadhvi Pragya Thakur and Devendra Gupta - chargesheeted in Ajmer and Mecca Masjid blasts cases.
The Congress that has stepped up its offensive against right wing extremism is demanding a thorough probe.
"I would request government to inquire which police officers were involved in closing the case, and the ministers and others who tried to cover this case should also be named," Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh said.
With pressure building up, the police have now got Solanki's custody for two more weeks to interrogate him further.
