New Delhi: In the middle of a controversy over anti-India slogans raised at an event in support of terrorist Afzal Guru at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), BJP parliamentarian Vijay Goel today held a sit-in protest against "anti-nationals".

A poster advertising the event outside Mr Goel's 10 Ashoka Road home raised some eyebrows.

"Attack (PM Narendra) Modi a thousand times if you want, but don't honour Afzal and insult those who sacrificed their lives for the nation," said the banner, with an image of Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi sitting with students protesting at JNU in the backdrop.

Students and teachers at the university are protesting the arrest of student leader Kanhaiya Kumar for allegedly making anti-national comments during the Afzal Guru event.

Speaking to NDTV during his protest against Kanhaiya Kumar and others accused of speaking at that event, Mr Goel attacked the Congress saying "some political parties went to the JNU campus in the midst of traitors who shouted anti-national slogans."

In October, Mr Goel caused a flutter when he put up a hoarding likening PM Modi to Mahatma Gandhi and calling them the saints of Sabarmati.

Derided for what the Congress called "sycophancy", Mr Goel said Gandhi liberated India and "Modi freed people from corruption and poverty".
