Chennai:

It is a state where one alliance swept all the seats in the last election. And one party got a lion`s share of plum ministerial berths. With regional parties playing a big role in government formation, ever wondered why Tamil Nadu`s heavyweights are reluctant to put up their hands up for the country`s top job?

When asked that "many believe you are Prime Ministerial material," AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa replied: "No comments. But thank you for the compliment."

M Karunanidhi says: "I know my limits. I don`t have enough time to be Chief Minister itself and I am thinking of giving it up, where's the question of wanting to be Prime Minister."

She may have jailed him for 19 months, but MDMK general secretary Vaiko`s adulation for Amma is growing stronger. The AIADMK chief`s latest demand for a separate homeland for Tamils in Sri Lanka has now made the pro-Tiger Vaiko root for Jayalalithaa as PM.

"If the situation arises, I will raise my voice that Madam Jayalalithaa is the fittest candidate for the PM`s post."

Both the Dravidian heavyweights may rule out prime ministerial ambitions. But both these leaders have always been keen on playing king maker.

Says Jayalalithaa: "Whoever, Tamil Nadu points to, should become the PM. Vote with that in mind."

As for their followers, their answers would be obvious!
