Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday said he will be "too happy" if the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre orders an inquiry into the alleged cases of corruption in his government.

Terming Amit Shah's comments made on Saturday during a press conference on the issue here as "nothing but an election gimmick", Mr Gogoi said in a statement he would be "too happy if the present dispensation at the Centre institutes a probe into the corruption cases of the present state government".

"If the BJP-led government is so serious that the present state government had indulged in corruption and misappropriated Central funds, then why did it not institute a probe in the nearly two years of its tenure? This is nothing but an election gimmick," he said.

Mr Gogoi also accused the Central government leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, of raking up the government of infiltration with an eye on the elections.

"As in the last Parliamentary elections so also in the ongoing Assembly elections, the BJP central leaders including the Prime Minister have been raking up the problem of infiltration from across the border. But, once the elections are over, the issue will be put on the back burner," he said.

Questioning the Centre's seriousness in dealing with the the problem of infiltration, he said, "It did virtually nothing to strengthen the borders in the past almost two years. If infiltration is taking place, then it is the Central government's responsibility to stop it rather than passing the buck on the state government."
