BJP on Thursday hit out at former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan.
New Delhi:
BJP on Thursday hit out at former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan over his "vendetta politics" remarks, asking if he also holds the Congress leadership guilty after they removed him from the post over the same charges.
BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli also took a dig at Congress leaders for being in the "thick" of scams and corruption all the time.
"That is a strange comment of vendetta politics by Ashok Chavan. He should recall that he was removed from his post by the Congress leadership on the same allegations. Does he first hold his party leadership guilty of vendetta politics against him? He should take a stand on that," he said.
Attacking Congress, he asked, "why is it that Congress leaders are always caught in the thick of scams and allegations of corruption".
Countering Mr Chavan over his vendetta politics charge against BJP, Mr Kohli said "everyone is entitled to proving their innocence on the basis of facts and evidence instead of adjectives and counter-allegations".
CBI on Thursday got Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao's sanction to prosecute Mr Chavan in the Adarsh Housing society scam case, a move which the Congress leader dubbed as "vindictive" action by ruling BJP in the state.
Mr Chavan said "The (Justice Patil) committee's report is absolutely clear that there was no reservation for land for any Army personnel and the land belonged to the state government. This is just a vindictive attitude of the BJP."
He alleged that the BJP was putting "political pressure" on the CBI to take action against him at the behest of some members of the party.
