Gurgaon : Aam Aadmi Party councillor Nisha Singh, who received bail today, said her arrest was meant to stop her from speaking out.
Ms Singh was arrested on Saturday for protesting against the Haryana Development Authority's slum demolition drive. The police have charged her with rioting, attempt to murder and instigating residents to attack a demolition squad.
Ms Singh, however, said she only took pictures from her mobile phone and that the police and the officials at the spot could not produce documents to support their demolition drive.
"This was an attempt to prevent me from speaking out, I will continue to raise my voice against corruption," said Ms Singh following her release.
She also alleged that she had been manhandled before her arrest. Her family said the arrest took place despite their appeals for medical help.
A support rally was organised for her in Gurgaon's sector 47, which she attended after her release.
"Ms Singh has been the one who has consistently taken on the administration for failing to build and maintain infrastructure and prevent corruption," said Colonel Oberoi, a retired army officer and one of her supporters at the rally.
Ms Singh said she has received unconditional support from 34 councillors in Gurgaon and the residents.
