Amritsar: Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today said that the SAD-BJP government will leave no stone unturned to ensure the state continues to remain on top in terms of development on economic and social indexes.
Inaugurating development-centric projects in Amritsar, he said special attention will be paid for the development of the city and transform the holy city into a tourist hub.
He claimed the SAD-BJP government had accomplished various development-related work in the city, which included a Rs 8 crore city entrance gate, Entrance Plaza near Sri Darbar Sahib at Rs 200 crore, Fort Gobindgarh renovated with Rs 95 crore, and constructed heritage village at Rs 15 crore.
Earlier today, the deputy chief minister laid the foundation stone of a road-over-bridge (RoB) to be constructed on the Tarn Taran-Amritsar road at a cost of Rs 130 crore.
He also inaugurated other projects including mechanical sweeping machines, new building of MC office and solid-waste management project at a cost of Rs 460 crore thus initiating projects to the tune of around Rs 600 crore.
BJP lawmaker Shwait Malik today wrote a letter to Punjab chief secretary for not inviting him for inauguration programmes in Amritsar.
Describing the incident as "gross violation" of norms laid down by the government, Mr Malik said his name was not mentioned on the inaugural stones and newspaper advertisements."
"By virtue being Member Parliament from Rajya Sabha, I am also co-chairman of District Development of Coordination and Monitoring Committee and was not taken into confidence at all", he said.
Meanwhile, legislator Inderbir Singh Boloria who had been suspended by SAD, today staged protest a just ahead of Mr Badal's arrival in the city.
