Bihar's Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has said his party will file an appeal in Supreme Court demanding a close monitoring of the investigation into the Srijan Scam. The Central Bureau of Investigation is probing the Rs 1,000 crore case - billed as the second biggest in the state since the fodder scam, in which Lalu Yadav, former chief minister and Tejashwi Yadav's father, has been convicted.
Today, Tejaswi Yadav urged CBI to file a case against his former boss, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and his deputy Sushil Modi, accusing them of conspiracy.
"Nitish Kumar and Sushil Modi are responsible for the Srijan scam. The state government they lead is busy eliminating evidence and trying to divert the issue to save their skin," Tejashwi Yadav told a rally in Bhagalpur to launch his party's campaign against the Srijan scam, under which by party workers will hold "dharnas" at all district headquarters on September 12.
Lalu Yadav urged the CBI to seize the properties of the scamsters. These, he said, should include a mall being that's being built on land belonging to BJP lawmaker Nishikant Dubey at the heart of Bhahgalpur town.
"So far, more than two dozen shops have been were booked by either the kingpins or the relatives of officials accused in the scam," Lalu Yadav said, adding that the CBI should stop targeting the small fish and instead look for the kingpins who are still at large. The police say 20 people have been arrested and over two dozen cases have been filed. Ten of these have been filed by the CBI.
"The Nitish government will have to give details of every penny that was embezzled by Srijan in the state's mega scam," Lalu Yadav said.
The Srijan scam involves pilfering of state funds allegedly by a Bhagalpur-based non-profit, Srijan Mahila Vikas Sahyog Samiti Ltd, which used to provide vocational training to women. The funds, meant for government welfare schemes, had been siphoned off from the bank accounts of the Bhagalpur district administration.
