Will not accept India is a soft state: BJP

New Delhi: The BJP has said it will not accept that India is a soft state, but has expressed concern at the fragility of the security system.

The party's national core group met on Sunday under president Nitin Gadkari and condemned the blast and the people behind it. Senior leaders will visit Pune.

Briefing the press, party spokesman Arun Jaitley said they noted that the terrorists chose a crowded location frequented by foreigners.

The motive, he said, was to target foreign nationals. "When on 26/11 two top hotels and a Jewish settlement were targeted, the goal was the same i.e. to target foreign nationals so that these type of attacks have an international impact."

Jaitley lashed out at the UPA government saying the bomb blast proved that the enemies of India continued their war ... but "neither India nor Indians can accept that India is a soft state."

The Indian government, he said, should consider the Intelligence it had was inadequate and that is why the area that David Headley recced was still unprotected.

He said what had happened in Pune was "a grim reminder of the fragility of our security system and adventurous traps that we are walking into," referring to the move to ask Kashmiris in Pok to come back. Such amnesty was "a way to legitimize infiltration", he said.

He also questioned the timing of Indo-Pak talks saying terror and talks could not coexist. "When terror threatens India, then not talking is also a legitimate diplomatic action," Jaitley said.

"There's no reason for the country to change its stand post 26/11 when all diplomatic ties with Pakistan were cut off," he said.
