AAP leader Sanjay Singh vowed to quit politics if there was any truth in allegations against him.
New Delhi:
In the middle of a sex scandal that has led to the sacking and arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) minister Sandeep Kumar in Delhi, a lawmaker has written an explosive letter to Arvind Kejriwal alleging misdemeanors by more party leaders.
Top AAP leader Sanjay Singh today vowed to quit politics and "never show my face in public" if there was any truth in Delhi legislator Devinder Sehrawat's allegations against him.
Threatening to sue Mr Sehrawat for defamation, Mr Singh also alleged a conspiracy ahead of next year's Punjab polls by the BJP and Akali Dal, who rule the state together.
In his letter, Mr Sehrawat had accused AAP leaders of exploiting women who want to contest the Punjab election.
"I saw disturbing reports about women being exploited in Punjab in return of or promise of tickets. I am meeting people in Chandigarh to check the position on ground. The lawmakers of Delhi are unaware of what is being done by Sanjay Singh, Durgesh as party representatives in Punjab. Dilip Pandey is doing the same in Delhi," Mr Sehrawat claimed.
Mr Sehrawat also tore into party leader Ashutosh for his column on ndtv.com on the sex scandal and urged Mr Kejriwal to remove him from the party.
Ashutosh has faced protests from opposition parties and has also been summoned by the country's top women's rights body for his column last Thursday. In it, he had referenced Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru as examples in history where leaders had lived with "desires beyond social boundaries" and questioned why sex between two consenting adults should be debated.
These views are not "as per the acceptable value systems," said Mr Sehrawat.
The lawmaker, who had earlier spoken out against the manner in which founder members Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav were expelled from the party last year, said the situation "is getting indefensible and disgraceful and action needs to be taken to remove rotten elements".
Mr Kumar was today sent to three days in police lock-up.
