Samajwadi Party leader Dimple Yadav, who was elected to Lok Sabha from Uttar Pradesh, on Monday took oath as a member of the House.

After taking oath, Ms Yadav touched the feet of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, who was sitting in the front row of the opposition benches.

Ms Yadav greeted leaders of both opposition and treasury benches while going to take oath as well as after taking it. She took oath in Hindi.

Her husband and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav was seen sitting in the visitors' gallery.

Ms Yadav won the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat in a recently held by-election that was necessitated following the death of her father-in-law and SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav.

No Proposal To Extend Single Use Plastic Ban: Centre Informs Lok Sabha

The central government currently has no proposal under consideration to expand the scope of the ban on single-use plastics, Union environment, forest, and climate change minister Bhupender Yadav informed Lok Sabha on Monday.

The response by Mr Yadav was in reply to a question by parliamentarian Umesh G Jadhav about the details of the proposed expansion, if any, of the identified plastic items under the ban.

Parliament Passes Bill To Promote Non-Fossil Energy Sources

A bill seeking to mandate the use of non-fossil energy sources such as biomass, ethanol and green hydrogen was passed by Parliament on Monday.

The Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was cleared in Rajya Sabha by a voice vote on Monday. Lok Sabha passed the legislation in the previous session in August this year.

The bill provides for penalties for violations by industrial units or vessels, and on manufacturers if a vehicle fails to comply with fuel consumption norms.

The amendments also seek to promote renewable energy and the development of a domestic carbon market to battle climate change.

The bill is also aimed at helping the country achieve its international commitments on climate change.

It aims to introduce new concepts such as carbon trading and mandate the use of non-fossil sources to ensure faster decarbonisation of the Indian economy and help achieve sustainable development goals in line with the Paris Agreement.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh Gives Zero-Hour Notice In Rajya Sabha

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh gave a zero-hour notice in Rajya Sabha on Monday.

His submission was made in order to address the "exploitation" of central investigative agencies by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

"You must be aware that the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party has been misusing investigative agencies of the government, and alluring and giving out threats to MLAs. The opposition party has been working to attack the government," read the letter.

"In order to destroy democracy, the process has reached the municipal corporation. Currently, the BJP has been unsuccessfully trying to influence the newly elected MCD AAP members. Therefore please allow me to speak on this important issue in the zero hour," added the notice.

The ban on select single-use plastics by the Centre in order to reduce plastic wastage came into effect on July 1, 2022. Single-use plastics are typically items that are discarded after being used only once and do not go through the recycling process. They are a big contributor to plastic pollution.

Never Refer To Anyone's Caste, Religion In Parliament: Lok Sabha Speaker

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday warned members against referring to anyone's caste and religion in the House after a Congress MP alleged that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made certain remarks about his proficiency in Hindi because he belonged to a lower caste.

Taking serious exception to the word used by Congress member A R Reddy to refer to his own social category during the Question Hour, the Speaker pointed out that people have not elected the members to Lok Sabha on the basis of their caste and religion.

"Anyone here should never use such words in the House. Otherwise, I will have to take action against such a member," the Speaker warned.

He also took serious exception to the Congress member's remarks after Reddy, while asking his question, asked Mr Birla not to "interrupt" him.

Congress MP Demands Discussion On Internal Security
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Monday demanded a discussion in the Lok Sabha on the country's internal security situation.

Speaking in the House, Mr Chowdhury alleged that the security situation from Kashmir to Punjab has worsened and the number of terror camps has increased in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 377.

"The law and order is worsening in the country so there should be a discussion (in the House) on internal security situation," Mr Chowdhury said.

Speaking during the Zero Hour, Harsimrat Kaur Badal (Shiromani Akali Dal) demanded that government consult farmers before proceeding with the amendments in the Electricity (amendment) Bill, 2022.

She said the Government had given written assurances to the farmers following which they withdrew their year-long agitation in December 2021.

"People In Parliament Jealous Of Increasing Economy": Nirmala Sitharaman

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that some people in the Parliament are jealous of India's rising and "fastest-growing" economy. 

"It is sad that some people in Parliament are jealous of country's increasing economy. India has the fastest-growing economy but opposition has a problem with it. Everyone should be proud of India's growth but some people take it as a joke," Ms Sitharaman said. 

"The Indian rupee has been strong against every currency. Reserve Bank has used foreign exchange reserves that it has to intervene in the market to make sure that the Dollar-Rupee fluctuation does not go too much," she added.

BJP MP Sushil Modi Demands Scrapping Of Rs 2,000 Note

BJP MP Sushil Modi today demanded in the Lok Sabha that the Rs 2,000 note be scrapped.

"To stop black money, circulation of Rs 2,000 note needs to be banned," he said. "I request the government of India that the Rs 2,000 notes be withdrawn in a gradual, phased manner."

Congress MP Manish Tewari Gives Adjournment Notice

Congress MP Manish Tewari on Monday gave Adjournment Motion notice in Lok Sabha to discuss the Centre's confrontation with the judiciary on matters related to judicial appointments.

The judicial appointment issue stoked a row as different government functionaries made several statements on the subject. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju for two months has been strongly criticizing the collegium system for judicial appointment.

Mr Tewari on Friday also gave an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha to discuss matters related to statements made by different government functionaries over judicial appointment issues.

Dimple Yadav Takes Oath As MP

Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav today took oat as a Member of Parliament. Ms Yadav won from Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh and defeated her nearest rival Raghuraj Singh Shakya by 2,88,461 votes.
