Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged all parties to “understand the pain of new MPs” and avoid disruptions in parliament as the winter session started today.
“When I unofficially met MPs of almost all political parties in the past few days, they said that when there is chaos in the house and it gets adjourned, it affects MPs. The young MPs look disheartened. It is important for the house to run. Young MPs say when discussions aren't held, they don't get to learn,” PM Modi told reporters.
All parties should give young members a chance to participate in debates for their bright future, the PM said.
“Even the opposition agrees that the house should run. I hope that floor leaders of all parties will understand the pain of (young) MPs. I appeal to all parties and MPs to make the session productive,” said the Prime Minister.
PM Modi also spoke about India's leadership of G20, saying it is “not merely a diplomatic event but a chance to showcase the country's strength”.
The winter session that started today will end on December 29 after 17 working days. The BJP-led government plans to bring 16 new bills.
