"Wisdom Has Prevailed" Venkaiah Naidu On Rahul Gandhi "U-Turn"

'Wisdom Has Prevailed' Venkaiah Naidu On Rahul Gandhi 'U-Turn'

BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu called Rahul Gandhi's reported "U-turn" on the RSS as a "good turn."

New Delhi: After Rahul Gandhi drew a distinction between the role of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh as an organization and the actions of individuals associated with the Sangh in the murder of Mahatma Gandhi, senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu said he was glad that "wisdom has prevailed."

"Good, Rahul finally admitted before Supreme Court that RSS is not accused in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi," Mr Naidu wrote in a series of tweets.

"Wisdom has prevailed. It may be a U-turn, but a good turn. RSS is a patriotic organization, RSS-Ready for Self Service anywhere any time," Mr Naidu added.

Mr Gandhi was reported as saying that people from the RSS had assassinated Gandhiji. Yesterday he told the Supreme Court that he had not blamed the RSS but "people associated with it" for the shooting of the Mahatma.

"I hope wisdom will prevail upon him and others not to make such offensive remarks against a nationalist organization," Mr Naidu had said yesterday when asked to react on Mr Gandhi's statement in court.

The apex court has asked the RSS complainant to offer his response to Mr Gandhi's clarification by next week. Earlier Mr Gandhi had refused to apologise, with his party saying he would rather face trial.

Last month, the Supreme Court had warned Mr Gandhi that he was wrong if he had collectively blamed the RSS for killing of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948 by Nathuram Godse. After the assassination of Gandhiji, the RSS was banned till it was exonerated.
