Bhopal, Jaipur: Veenu Paliwal, who died in a road accident in Madhya Pradesh's Vidisha, was known as "HOG Rani" -- a combination of an acronym for Harley Owners Group and a mark of affection for Jaipur's only woman Harley rider from fellow bike enthusiasts.

Ms Paliwal, 44, was on an all-India trip when her Harley Davidson bike skidded and fell near Gyaraspur, around 100 km from Bhopal, on Monday.  She was taken to a hospital near Vidisha, but died around evening.

"Veenu had left Jaipur after Holi and was doing a trip almost around the entire country. She was about to complete 10,000 km -- a rare achievement for any biker, especially a woman," said Rajiv Bansal, a Jaipur-based HOG.

She was undertaking the Kashmir to Kanyakumari trip with fellow biker and companion Dipesh Tanwar. The two started their journey from Lucknow early in the morning for Bhopal on separate Harley Davidson bikes.

Ms Paliwal, who grew up in Rajasthan, was known for driving Harley Davidson bikes at a very high speed. She had learnt to ride while in college and was an ardent advocate for safe driving. While still in college - Ajmer's Sophia College -- Ms Paliwal got her first bike from her father, Kailash Chandra Paliwal, a retired bank employee.

Before her death, she was one of the most experienced riders on the Harley owners' circuit.

"It is a passion, an addiction... we went on rides every Sunday with Veenu," said Mr Bansal. The HOG has chapters in practically every state and its members meet to go on regular bike trips.

Ms Paliwal had already started shooting a movie on her motorbike journey across the country -- a journey that was cut short by the tragic accident.
